Hunter and Lacie--Day 30

Today Hunter, Lacie, and myself went to laurelhurst park right down the road from my house to go "test" the new camera out. We only stayed out for about an hour because I had to be at work later that afternoon. Luckily, (since we live in portland) we have overcast skies here the majority of the time. However, for the past week or so it's been nice and sunny which I was worried about since we didn't get as early of a start as I had originally wanted. Much to my surprise...the day we decide to go phototaking is the ONE day it is actually overcast all this week and for the next week supposedly. Granted, before you judge my new photos keep in mind I JUST got this new camera and am still testing it out and learning the odds and ins. I already love it though it does so many amazing things my canon didn't and is so much more photographer friendly and convenient. So expect the photos to only get better from here but I think these turned out pretty good as well. So this is my photo of the day. Horraaayyy!!--Day 28

This has officially just become the happiest day of my entire almost two weeks Jason has been gone and my dad left. It started out a whatever day. Still upset about yesterday, still not feeling 100%, and working a 12 hour shift to top it off. I called around frantically yesterday after I discovered my camera wasn't coming in because of my zip code on the package being ONE number off. I was heartbroken when I found out and lost all hope of seeing it within the next week and a half. So I called the actual post office that delivers my mail since the 1.800 people weren't very helpful. I got this REALLY nice guy that took down all my information researched the tracking number and said he was going to do some investigation and see if he could figure something out. I felt a little better knowing that I could tell he was sincere and honestly cared. However, I still didn't have much hope. If what the lady on the 1.800 line told me was true my package was already on it's way back to sc. So I go to work at 8am and I drive home at 8pm and what do I see on my mailbox?!? This...

Oh Happy Day! The guy at the post office actually came through. It's these little things I appreciate about my new home. Everyone is just so nice and so 100% willing to bend over backwards to help someone out. I think this is the only place I've been to where people will stop and just talk to you or help you in any way they can. It's nice to know there are still good people in this world and not everyone has turned their back on chivalry.

Kind of a crummy day--Day 27

Something is messing with my sinuses, I'm exhausted from all this work I've been doing, and the post office jipped me out of my wonderful camera my very loving grandfather worked so hard to send me! So I'm going to make this post short. This is a picture (of a picture) of one of my clients wedding days. I just think she was so beautiful and simple and elegant I can't help but be drawn in. I wish I were around during those times. When women were actually well...women.

Kiss my foot!!--Day 21

Pardon the expression! It is something one of my clients said to me today in place of "kiss my ass" and I found it so humorous I decided I was going to use it at some point throughout the day!

So...I want to know which deedeedee weatherman said we were going to have sunshine today! I'm slowly realizing why people in Portland don't listen to the weather report!

Overload!!--Day 20

So today was a work overload! Started at 830 and didn't end until 630! So I didn't have much time to plan out a picture to take so I snapped this one in between clients.

So this is the Hawthorne theatre...it's where all the cool hipsters go to see all the cool bands!
Honestly though, it's a really cool place and they're always having really cool bands come through.

Waffles!--Day 19

So today after my first shift at work I met my aunt and family at cup and saucer for lunch. I've been there a couple times now and really enjoy it! The cafe is right next to this really cool vintage shop (which I have yet to go into yet) and this place called waffle window, which is exactly what the name implies. A wall where you get waffles. It's a little window in the side of this brick building and you walk up to it and order a waffle. Pretty cool! I haven't gone yet but everytime I drive by it there is someone standing outside getting a waffles. Rain or shine. So next time I drive by it I am getting out walking to the hole in the wall and ordering a waffle!

sad day--Day 18

Today was a sad day for me. I said goodbye to my dad and jason too! Then I had to drive home by myself and i'm going to be alone in my home for two weeks!

I start back work tomorrow from my 5 days off when my dad was here so I'm going to have to cut this post short and get some sleep.

here's a picture I tried to snap of jason on his way to security:

Final Day--Day 17

So today is the last day my dad is in town and the last day jason is technically here for two weeks. So we went to the zoo and hung out most of the day. I had never been to the portland zoo but it actually surpassed my expectations. It was really nice and actually pretty big!
here are some of my shots from the zoo:

Boring day--Day 16

So we didn't get to go snowboarding today. We lounged around the house and watched movies all afternoon and night, made dinner, and just hung out. It was boring but kind of nice none the less. It's just nice to spend time with my dad. So I didn't really have a photo to share so I just snapped one real quick of the bathroom paint. Im going to have to really think long and hard about how I'm going to photograph the bathroom and show it to you guys when it's all cleaned up because it's so small in there it's hard to get the right angles. But in this photo at least you can see the paint (:

Rain, Rain--Day 15

So today we arrived at Mt. Hood to find nothing but rain. When I say rain, I mean RAIN. Not the light little mist drizzle we get in portland all day this was actual RAIN. So none of us (except hardcore little hunter) went snowboarding tonight. We're going to try to wait it out and even though the storm is suppose to be here all weekend hope it passes some over the night and it might be a little more clear tomorrow or at least be that light drizzle i've grown so accustom too.

So Jason and I went out for about ten minutes and snapped some quick photos it was hard because I didn't want my camera to get wet.

Downtown--Day 14

Today we went down to the waterfront again and walked around pioneer square. We've been getting a storm in so it's been pretty gloomy for the past couple of days but it's been great temperature wise. We had a lot of fun and just hung out walking around downtown! Tomorrow we're going snowboarding so be prepared for some nice photos! It'll be a breath of fresh air from all these cell phone snap shots!

Happy Anniversary--Day 11

So today was me and Jason's anniversary. 4 years! [=
We didn't do anything though because we just bought our new living room furniture so we're kind of broke right now and we have a lot to do before my dad comes to visit thursday. So I worked today and jason spent most the day putting together our furniture. I know I said yesterday I was going to try to post a picture of our put together apartment but yeah...needless to say that didn't happen. However, tomorrow is our deadline since my dad is coming and we want to have the apartment semi decent by then. So tomorrow for sure I will have at least a little preview of the apartment to show you.

So for my picture for the day I figured I already semi posted a picture of my sister in her element cooking (even though she kept hiding her face) but haven't posted a candid one of my brother in his element. So here is hunter, doing what he does.

....and hiding his face too.

Continuing with the changes!!--Day 10

So today was full of more changes! We bought our new living furniture and I cut my hair!! Yep, the long hair is now going to be made into wig for a little kid suffering from cancer. So tomorrow we should hopefully have the living room and bathroom. We just have to get the couch tomorrow. So for now here is my new hair and hopefully tomorrow well show the living room and bathroom!

Whoa--Day 9

So we moved all of our stuff from the storage unit to the apartment. I swear when we moved here
I threw away and gave away half of what we had easily and we still somehow have a big pile! Since we are completely changing our decor
And look we will probably be getting rid of half of what is left also. /:

This is about a third of what we have to go through. It's going to be so much fun.

So I did finish the bathroom and I was going to do that as my post but
I decided to wait until it's all unpacked and finished. I'm excited! (:

Not enough hours in the day!--Day 8 (well...sort of)

So I'm a little late today but on my behalf I had a lot going on! I started my new job today, ran a TON of errands, and painted. So even though by the book it's past midnight I haven't gone to sleep yet so I still consider this day not ended! Plus I actually took the picture before midnight I just wasn't able to post it! And really, that's allthat matters.

So we finished painting the bedroom tonight. It looks good it's light and subtle but you can tell. I tried to take the picture with the window in the shot so you could see the contrast but the camera isn't the best quality. As the week goes along I will take better photos with my real camera when I'm all finished so you can see every little detail!

Now, this is probably the hardest thing EVER. For those of you who have ever pinstriped a wall, you know what I'm going through. For those of you who have yet to do it...DONT! This took forever and it's such a headache. I know it looks funny now and yellow, but bear with me. When it's finished I promise it'll look good!

Friday, January 7, 2011

Bluuueee!!!--Day 7

So today I had my orientation for my new job and I start tomorrow morning! We also started painting our apartment. Home depot apparently doesn't sell Benjamin Moore paint so I couldn't get the one I wanted and had to kind of wing it. We chose a color we thought was close and in all actuality was...it's just a little darker and much more bold than I imagined. None the less I love anything blue so of course still like it! And I think it'll tame down once we get our furniture in Sunday. (:

Here is Jason and lacie oh so proud of the wonderful work they did!

A NNNEEWWW apartment!!--Day 6

So today we spent all day moving about 1/4 of our stuff ha. Needless to say we will probably be selling the majority of it since I doubt it will fit into our teeny tiny new apartment.

So since I don't have much time tonight because I have to take these state required health care tests for my new job and have to wake up at six tomorrow to go to our storage unit and dig to find my immunization record and make it to orientation!!!...I will go ahead and get the picture on. It's not much just a simple little shot of part of our new home. It's small but it has a lot of potential! We will be painting tomorrow so that'll probably be my picture of the day tomorrow!

and here is a picture of mr. copernicus staring out his new window

An "INCREDIBLE" day!--Day 5

So today was an eventful day. We first drove down to tualatin so I could do my interview for new job. Then vice president of johns incredible pizza called Jason when their flight landed and invite him to come tour the new johns building with them! So we headed over to Beaverton and on the way we saw an elderly woman broken down on the side of the road. She had no cell phone so we stood outside and let her use ours while she capped triple A. When all of that was sorted out we arrived at the johns incredible pizza location and all I can say is WOW! It is HUGE! About 50,000 square feet actually. It's going to be really nice when it's finished and all of the coorporate people really seem to like Jason. So here are a couple pictures I was able to secretly snap while we were there!

Boring--Day 4

So another boring day today! We went and met our new landlord and signed our lease so everything is official! Other than that honestly we just slept most of the day. So, for another boring camera phone photo! For those of you who don't know...this is my sister. This is also where she can be found the majority of the time. All the girl does with her free time is cook and watch food network/cooking channel!

And this is her after she realized I was taking her photo! Haha

Boring--Day 3

Wow did I cut today close! On my behalf I have been trying for about the last hour to post the photo from my phone with no luck. It's something i'll have to tinker with when i'm not pressed for time and trying to fill out my job application. So today we pretty much just did busy body work getting everything together for when we move into the new place we found. (Yes! Finally! We move in Thursday.) But I will tell you all about that another time. So I apologize for my extremely boring and lack of quality photo but It's bound to happen more often than not when you're taking a photo EVERYDAY. Let's face it, not everyone can have such an eventful life to where they do something extremely interesting every day. So nothing too amazing to report today, and a camera phone picture of little interest.

This is what I did with my night:

I helped my little sister with her math homework.
It may be uneventful and boring, but it is special none the less.

Waterfront--Day 2

So today right before we went to view a house we decided to take about an hour and go down to the waterfront with my brother. It's really beautiful down there and had we not been pressed for time and it not been so cold I could have stayed out all day taking photos! But, alas that will have to wait for another time. None the less, it was nice to get back behind the camera in a serious manner even if it only was for a little bit. So...I'm still editing the other photos and I will post them to my photography blog either late tonight or sometime tomorrow.

This is the photo I really loved and wanted to use it for my photo of the day but I knew that wouldn't count since I didn't actually take it. I decided to share it anyway though because I just love it that much!

However, here is the actual photo of the day:

So there ya go! Be sure to check back hopefully later tonight or tomorrow on the photography blog to see the rest!

Welcome!!--Day 1

Some of you may know, others may not but about two weeks ago I moved to Portland, Oregon to be closer to my family and to continue school at Oregon State. I decided to try a 365 blog out about a month ago to document the first year in my new home and new life. I can't promise I'll be able to take a professional quality photo everyday. (That's a lot to ask of a girl who goes to school AND works!) but I can promise I will try my hardest to keep with this and commit to it. Sometimes they may be good photos taken with my SLR and others may be something as simple taken with my phone camera. This is a year of my life in photographs. New place, new people, new beautiful things to capture. I hope you will join me in this new adventure.

So I will have to apologize in advance for this first week. Since we are still new here and are still looking for a place to live I have a lot of things to do this week. Work, home, school, unpacking, ect. So this first week is probably going to be the roughest for me. I was hoping to start with an amazing photo I spent all day thinking about and composing but to be completely honest I didn't even realize it was the first of the year until mid-day and so this is a photo I had to snap on my way to our temporary home from viewing a house.

So all the mumbo-jumbo aside, let's begin this!
This is my fresh start with some familiar faces and this...is my new home.
